Zwar bietet Madagaskar für Wildtiere so einige Vorzüge, doch Löwe Alex, Zebra Marty, Giraffe Melman und Nilpferd Gloria sehnen sich nach ihrem Big Apple. Gemeinsam mit King Julien und dessen Privatsekretär reparieren sie ein altes Flugzeug und starten gen Heimat. Doch es kommt zur Bruchlandung - über der afrikanischen Steppe. In den endlosen Steppen Afrikas trifft unsere Gang aus dem Zoo das erste Mal auf ihre wilden Artgenossen - und Alex auf seine Verwandtschaft.
"Madagascar" war 2005 ein erfolgreicher Trickfilm mit ziemlich gewöhnungsdürftiger Animation und putziger Story, den man mal eben als durchaus witzig durchwinken konnte. Dass ausgerechnet dieser Film eine kino-gerechte Fortsetzung erhält, während andere Erfolge wie "Jagdfieber" gerade mal auf eine billige "Direct-to-DVD" kommen, fand ich schon verwunderlich. Noch mehr überrascht allerdings, daß das Sequel tatsächlich noch mehr Gas gibt und gerade am Anfang ein turbulentes Gag-Feuerwerk zündet. Dabei versandet die Story zwar ziemlich schnell im rührigen Trickfilm-Klischee, dass bestenfalls die Handlung vom Klassiker "König der Löwen" abrippt und im gefühlsdusseligen Disney-Kitsch endet. Vom Unterhaltungswert liegt der zweite Teil in meinen Augen deutlich vor dem Original, allerdings relativiert die fehlende Originalität den Eindruck wieder und bringt sie auf dieselbe Bewertung wie schon den Vorgänger. Bleibt abzuwarten wie die kleinen Pinguine sich dieses Jahr in ihrem eigenen Spinoff bewähren werden.
